RAF Typhoon fighter aircraft have operated alongside France's air force in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory operated by the IS group, as stated by the British defence ministry.
The facility, pinpointed through intelligence, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was positioned in hills just above the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"The RAF jets utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a several approach shafts leading to the depot... initial indications suggest the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the operation on Saturday evening and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon FGR4s were supported by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
The Islamic State group - alternatively referred to as Daesh - established militant control over parts of both Syria and Iraq until 2019.
